Latvala on 05-08-77 Record? |
At 12:02 of Row Jimmy on the 05-08-77 Seamons matrix, some guy says, "Hey, Dick," and says something about "Saturday Night" to him, saying, "You see him?" The guy who responds says, "Oh, wow. I saw him do that once." I am under the impression that this is Dick Latvala, based on the way his voice sounds too. Can anyone confirm or refute this theory?

Not sure who, exactly, but I found it curious - how many recordings do we actually hear Dick on??? For a man who has picked out shows that are basically a part of our Grateful Dead bible now (aka Dick's Picks) I found this detail I noticed to be nothing more than a potential fun fact. There are some real crazies out there, such as myself, who appreciate such fun facts - and I imagine you do too, sir. ;)

Re: Latvala on 05-08-77 Record? |
I think old Dick has burned a few too many brain cells. There's no way his list of 20 shows are all better than 5-8. I had that tape long before I ever knew it was a "holy grail" show and thought it was the best I ever heard. I agree that his release from 5-22-77 is worthy, but 20 shows are better?
Hseamons, what a great job on the latest matrix, thanks so much. Would you consider looking at 9-21-82? The SBD has Jerry low in the mix for the 1st set, and the aud could use a little improvement by adding the clarity of the board. I think these types of situations are great opportunities for the matrix to improve what's out there. Thanks for all of your releases. Your time & efforts are certainly appreciated around here.

I always consider requests, billydlions, and I think this could be a potential good pairing of a rocking '82 show. peace.

Re: Latvala on 05-08-77 Record? |
Thanks! It's one of those shows where I don't know which source to listen to. Charlie's board sounds nice, but Garcia is lacking in the 1st set which is a shame because the Playin' - Crazy Fingers is a great start and it's the best version of Big River I've ever heard. The aud sounds pretty nice, but MSG doesn't always have the best sounding auds (with all due respect to 3-9-81 which is in a league if it's own)

Re: Latvala on 05-08-77 Record? |
Question is, there seems to be some concern regarding whether the Miller source or the Tetzeli fix is closer to pitch (I read on a torrent that Miller said his "sounds" better, while it may be more off pitch). Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Both sources sound pretty good. The Miller source definitely plays fast, so I would assume that it would be easier to use the pitch corrected version. Could this also be a show where Charlie will be remastering his original with his new gear?

Re: Latvala on 05-08-77 Record? |
Sorry to butt in, but this is the first time I've run across you and I'm tickled to hear that you consider requests.
First, many thanks for all your fine and hard work. Being a big matrix convert, I'm pretty sure that I listen to some of it just about every day.
Then, I second that 09/21/1982 emotion, but wonder if you might also sometime (later) consider 09/02/1979? Charlie's board is crisp and lovely but conveys little of the psychotic intensity of that particular audience. Of course I don't know if the one audience version on here is worthwhile or not ... but it certainly is exciting.

Oh yeah, man. 06-08-77, 05-09-81, 10-09-82, 09-06-83, 03-28-85, 06-24-85, and 04-08-89 were all based on requests.
I'll check it, for sure, but I can't promise it.

a Miller/Wise MTX of 81-12-09 Boulder show would be awesome!
